The top three teams Las Palmas B, UD Villa Santa Brígida and UD San Fernando are ten points clear of fifth position so have all but guaranteed themselves an extension to the season via the playoffs.

The side currently in the final playoff position, fourth spot is U.S. Yaiza. Whilst Yaiza have had a fabulous season they have been a little unsteady of late and in their last eight matches have only won five points. Not so long ago Lanzarote trailed Yaiza by twelve points, now it is only three.

There are six sides all within three points of each other that are chasing that final playoff position. UD Ibarra (6th) won 4-0 over the weekend against rivals SD Tenisca (5th) and also have a home game in hand incidentally this is against Yaiza which will be played this Wednesday.

Lanzarote were desperate to take something from this game following their last minute defeat with ten men against league leaders Las Palmas B last week.

The first half was evenly matched though in the 38th minute striker Fabio blasted the ball home after seeing it blocked on his first attempt to send the Gran Canarian side 1-0 up.

For the second week in succession Lanzarote had a penalty claim denied when Captain Rosmen looked as though he had been clearly fouled inside the box. The score at the break remained 1-0 to the hosts.

The Rojillos came out for the second half with a positive attitude and leading scorer Jonathan Quintero was only inches away of levelling the score but his header went over the crossbar.

In the 55th minute Louis Kennedy struck the ball on the volley just inside the area beating the Gran Canarian goalkeeper and seeing the ball go inside the left hand post to level the score at 1-1.

Only a few minutes later and it looked as though Quintero had given the Rojillos the lead only for the Santa Brígida keeper to produce a fine save denying the Lanzarote top marksman.

Both sides had great opportunities to win the match but the game ended fairly with a point apiece.

Next Sunday 19th March at 12 noon Lanzarote are home versus CD El Cotillo. The last time these two sides met late October the Fuerteventura side were top of the league, however over recent months they have fallen apart and are now in a relegation battle just three points from the drop though they are unbeaten in their last three matches.
