U.D LANZAROTE 2-1 C.D BUZANADA

LANZAROTE   2   CD BUZANADA   1,   8th October 2017,

The Rojillos ended their run of three consecutive draws with a comfortable yet a bit too narrow of a win against the side that ended their 43 home match unbeaten run last season with a 1-5 assassination.

Lanzarote came out of the blocks fired up and incredibly within eight minutes were 2-0 to the good and looked as though that they were going to tear the Tenerife side apart.

In the 5th minute Fede Manzi won the ball in a dangerous position and fed the hugely impressive Gastón Cedrés. The young ex Junior of both Real and Atlético Madrid raced down the right wing and fired in a low powerful shot from the edge of the area beating Buzanada keeper Edwing at the far post to give his side a 1-0 advantage.

A superb performance from Gastón Cedrés.

Only two minutes later and striker Trujillo tried his luck with an overhead kick from a cross from the right, his effort only took the pace off the ball and gave it added height so midfielder Borja also thought he would try his luck at a Chilena (overhead kick), he connected superbly beating the keeper low at his right hand post to make it 2-0 and give Lanzarote a storming start.

All seemed good for the Lanzarote fans with many holidaymakers enjoying the beautiful autumn sun whilst drinking the odd beer along with a bocadillo (roll).

Lanzarote´s weather can differ with the various microclimates the island has and whilst it was 26 degrees with blazing sunshine in Arrecife just a 15 minute drive up the road to Teguise market it was lashing it down. I set up there early in the morning but on match day I am lucky to have a wife who understands my passion of football and on all home games and a few away matches takes over from me on a Sunday morning.

Anna loving the Teguise market weather.

In the 24th minute Lanzarote had the chance to put the game to bed with a third goal. Good work from Gastón winning the ball in the centre freed Borja, he switched the play allowing Trujillo free on the right to have a strike at goal from 10 yards. Lanzarote´s leading scorer took a little too much time as his thunderous strike was blocked by a defender which only resulted in a corner kick.

With a 2-0 lead Lanzarote became a little too over confident with their advantage and began missing passes and too were too relaxed defensively. In the 34th minute the home side were made to pay for their laxity.

A gorgeous day in Arrecife.

A free kick for the visitors from the left was not cleared by the Lanzarote defence and after letting the ball fall inside the six yard box, first to pounce was defender Facu who volleyed home into the right hand corner leaving goalkeeper Sasha no chance and put his side right back into the game as they trailed by 2-1.

Two minutes later and the Tenerife side were fortunate to still have ten men on the pitch as the skilful Borja tried to skip past a challenge from the Buzanada captain but was met with a high dangerous challenge completely taking out Borja. The referee saw the offence as a yellow but it could have easily been red.

As the first half came to a close Lanzarote were dominant but with just a goal between the two sides they were always just one kick away of dropping two points.

The Rojillos dominated the second period but were unable to find that breakthrough to give themselves breathing space. In the 57th minute a great team move involving Borja and Trujillo saw the ball fall invitingly to captain Ayoze and from 20 yards the midfielder fired in a rocket which unfortunately flew just over the crossbar.

As Lanzarote increased the tempo desperately in search of the third goal it seemed as though there was to be a clear penalty in the 68th minute. Ayoze was blatantly pulled back from eight yards as he was about to strike the ball. The midfielder did make contact with the ball but as the defender pulled his shirt this forced his effort high with the ball shaving the crossbar.

Antonio is just not Having It to the amusement of the fans behind him.

The referee couldn’t have been better positioned but shockingly waived away the appeals from the Lanzarote players. This will only prove to players that they should have gone down rather than make an honest attempt at still going for the ball.

Four minutes later and the visitors were down to ten men when their goal scorer Facu used his elbows in a challenge on Dani Garcia. The Lanzarote defender needed several minutes of treatment trying to stop the bleeding on his left cheek.

Gastón was still causing problems for the Tenerife defence whichever flank he decided to play on, his body movement is exceptional and after years of being with the Madrid clubs he is now with Primera Liga side Las Palmas but is on loan with Lanzarote for the season. At 19 years of age he is still young enough to make a career out of the most popular sport in the world.

Striker Trujillo had another effort charged down in the 82nd minute but as the game entered into added on time the Rojillos looked nervous and the fans were relieved when somebody could just blast the ball into orbit.

Deep into stoppage time the 14th placed side launched a free kick deep into Rojillo territory, worryingly the ball bounced and as substitute Adan was first to get a toe on the ball the Lanzarote supporters had their hearts in their mouths but fortunately the ball went high over the bar.

Moments later and Trujillo gifted Krispy the ball free on the edge of the box but unfortunately he took his eye off the ball and stumbled allowing a defender to clear as the official blew for full time.

All involved would have taken this result before the match and Lanzarote´s run continues to make it seven matches without defeat and moves them up to fifth spot in the table three points from the play offs.

This Thursday 12th October Lanzarote travel to Tenerife to face lowly CD Vera then on Sunday 15th October they are at home to league leaders CD Mensajero at 12.30pm.

There is no hiding the fact that Lanzarote has been looking for a striker especially as youngster Rami left the club to rejoin Yaiza. Last season’s captain 36 year old centre forward Rosmen has rejoined the Rojillos until the end of the season. He may be getting old but his physique is in prim condition and he is a natural goal scorer. There is no doubt Lanzarote´s female supporters will be delighted with his return.

Other island club U.S. Yaiza had a fabulous win over CD Mensajero 2-0 which has lifted them to just one point and one position below Lanzarote in the league table though the Rojillos do have a game in hand on their fierce rivals. Unfortunately CF Haría lost away 2-1 and are just one place off bottom spot.
