LANZAROTE   4   CLUB ATLÉTICO VICTORIA   0

The Rojillos ended the year on a high with their biggest win of the season on a wonderful evening with temperatures in their mid 20´s. Striker Rosmen bagged a brace and Echedey and Alex Yunes also joined in the fun whilst an Englishman made his debut.

Mixed day for Echedey opens the scoring but also sent off

This match had been brought forward as it was due to be played on the 6th Jan which is Kings Day and is probably the biggest national public holiday in Spain.

The opening stages were a little scrappy with little rhythm though Lanzarote had a great chance to open the scoring in the third minute with Kevin Camacho´s effort being cleared off the line by a defender following good work by winger Toñito.

Gradually Lanzarote began to hold the ball and dominate possession. The Rojillos front men of Rosmen and Toñito were looking lively and were always wanting the ball and testing the Tenerife sides back four.

Midway through the first half and the Conejeros (locals) were 1-0 up. Good play between Juanca, Toñito and Rosmen opened up the Tenerife defence and gave Echedey a clear strike at goal. The attacking midfielder struck just inside the area and the keeper saved low but the rebound fell kindly for Echedey who blasted the ball home.

This goal settled Lanzarote and the visitors were struggling to find a way out of their own half. Rosmen had a great chance to double the score shortly before the break after stealing the ball from a defender but his strike hit the post.

Two minutes into the second half and the Rojillos cemented their lead. Left back Taja steamed down the left wing and was brought down but with the Refs whistle in his mouth Echedey was also bundled over but the ball fell to Rosmen who made no mistake giving his side a 2-0 lead. Credit I hope must be given to the official for allowing play to continue despite two clear penalty appeals.

The visitors offered little. It wasn’t until the 52nd minute when they had the first attempt at goal. A good volley from midfielder Sergio though his effort didn’t concern the Lanzarote keeper as the ball whistled high and over the bar.

With 15 minutes left to play Echedey picked up his second yellow card though only three minutes later personal were evened up when Sergio also was shown his second yellow so both sides played on with 10 men apiece.

In the 79th minute Alex Yunes made the game safe at 3-0 with a beauty from the edge of the area. Manager Adolfo Pérez then introduced striker Ryan Macphee. Whilst the lad might not have the name of a Conejero there is no doubt that he is. Ryan and his brother Jaime who has also signed were born on Lanzarote and educated at Tias Secondary school and have both come up the ranks playing local club football.

Ryan gave a good account of himself and was on hand to celebrate Rosmen firing in his second of the afternoon and Lanzarote´s fourth in the final minute. Rosmen is now the team’s top scorer with eight goals which is already two better than his total tally of last season.

A 4-0 win was a wonderful way to finish the year but Lanzarote are still in 13th place and still two points behind today’s opposition let alone the 11 point gap for a playoff spot.

Next fixture for Lanzarote is a home match on the 13th January versus La Palma side U.D. Tijarafe at time to be confirmed.
