LANZAROTE 3 CD SAN ISIDRO 1

LANZAROTE   3   CD SAN ISIDRO   1

19th January 2014

A great second half display from the Rojillos inspired with goals from brothers Rosmen and Yaco Quevedo give Lanzarote all three points and moves them up to 11th spot in the league table.

The Tenerife side began the day in the final relegation spot and their game plan was simple, sit behind the ball and hope for something on the break. The first half was completely dominated by Lanzarote with the visitors not even having a strike at goal.

Jotha came close early on when he saw his free kick shave the post and Toñito who was in sparkling form from the first minute turned his defender inside out but his strike was wayward and landed somewhere near the butchers out of the ground.

Rosmen also wasted a couple of chances and looked desperate for a goal to restore his confidence. He didn’t have to wait too long.

Both sides have been miserable in front of goal all season and are the league’s lowest scorers with just 34 goals between them in a combined total of 42 matches so it wasn’t much of a surprise that the score remained goalless at the break.

The Conejeros (locals) began the second half with more urgency in their play and only five minutes into the half defender Ángel Gil was clearly upended in the box and earned his side a spot kick.

Rosmen sent the keeper the wrong way and Lanzarote were 1-0 to the good. The Tenerife side then entered into their best spell of the match as they began to venture out of their own half. On the hour mark striker Benito shot from the edge of the box but his effort deflected off a defender and narrowly flew past the Lanzarote post.

In the 75th minute the visitors were awarded a free kick from 20 yards. Midfielder Alfredo hit his shot straight against the wall but the Ref ordered him to retake the free kick as the Lanzarote wall had edged forward. His second effort flew over the wall and straight into the top right hand corner leaving Rojillos keeper Aridani no chance.

With the scores level at 1-1 Lanzarote upped the tempo and only needed four minutes to regain the lead. Great play by man of the match Echedey gave Rosmen an easy tap in to give his side a 2-1 advantage.

This time the Rojillos did not relax and went in search of the two goal cushion. On the right flank defender Ángel Gil, midfielder Echedey and the ever alert Toñito were causing the visitors countless problems. A combination of all three sent Rosmen free and he delivered a cross that Beckham would have been proud of as it shot in like a bullet and dipped in the danger zone where striker Yaco headed and the ball went in via the underside of the bar.

In stoppage time Rosmen who was now bouncing and full of confidence had a great opportunity to score a hat trick but his strike flew off the bar and away to safety.

The three points moves Lanzarote up to 11th spot and way clear of the relegation zone. Next week the Rojillos make their way to La Palma to face the team one place below them in the league SD Tenisca.
