CF UNIÓN VIERA 2 LANZAROTE 3

CF UNIÓN VIERA   2   LANZAROTE   3, 1st February 2015

The Rojillos once again show what they are made of. Coming from behind twice and from 2-1 down winning the match with just 10 players is a great way to prepare for next Sundays huge derby match versus Yaiza.

The game didn’t start well for Lanzarote because in the 13th minute a good cross was swept in and Rojillos centre back Francis Hernández went to clear his lines but as he was doing so the ball took a nasty bounce off the turf and his clearance flew past keeper Agoney inside the right hand post and the Gran Canarian side found themselves 1-0 up.

Lanzarote´s reply was good. Reborn Toñito seemed as though he was brought down by the keeper but the Ref ignored his side’s pleas for a penalty and waived play on.

In the 20th minute Toñito crossed in a free kick and the Rojillos Captain and star striker Rosmen rose the highest and headed his 19th goal of the season to bring his side level at 1-1.

Only four minutes later and the home team were back in front. Striker Yared hit a corner kick with extreme pace and somehow the ball ended up in the net and the locals were 2-1 to the good.

The match was open and Lanzarote had two good chances to draw level before the break, Falo with a header and Rosmen came close with a right footed shot. The locals thought they had extended the lead just before the interval when striker Cesáreo found the net but fortunately for Lanzarote the nice man in the distance was waving his flag for offside.

Fifteen minutes into the second half and more bad news for the Rojillos as Falo picked up his second yellow card so Lanzarote were not only 2-1 down but had to face the remaining half an hour with just 10 men.

In the 68th minute clever thinking by keeper Agoney who threw the ball instantly to send Toñito on his way. The outstanding winger got round the back of the Gran Canarian defence and his strike beat the keeper to level the score at 2-2.

The Rojillos were now looking for a winner and with the talent that they have up front there was always a possibility.

On a counter attack in the 80th minute Toñito ripped apart the Unión Viera defence and British boy Louis Kennedy read what his fellow winger was doing and reaped the rewards by tapping in the winner to make the score 2-3. Unfortunately the 21 year old picked up his fifth yellow of the season and will miss the derby match Sunday.

The locals came close in the closing stages to steal a point but Rojillos striker Mauri also had an opportunity to extent his sides lead. In the 88th minute the home side were also reduced to 10 men but by that time it didn’t matter as it was a case of launching the ball forward.

Lanzarote remain and have consolidated second spot but with CD Marino matching Lanzarote´s score away in Fuerteventura there is still a four point gap to top spot (Check league table on website as it is now working).

Next week is the big local derby against Yaiza which has been confirmed for Sunday 8th  Feb at 12 noon. Our southern friends won the first encounter in a terrible match 1-0 but are in fourth spot trailing Lanzarote by nine points.

One thing is absolutely certain and that is there is no other team in this league who would love to end Lanzarote´s unbeaten home record. Game on!
