CD VERA 1 LANZAROTE 2

CD VERA   1   LANZAROTE   2

2nd November 2014

U.D. Lanzarote´s season to date has been nothing short of astonishing. A dramatic and quite incredible goal from winger Toñito in the 94th minute gave Lanzarote their first away win of the season and pushes them up to second spot in the league.

Most of Lanzarote´s games this season have begun at a fast pace and this one was no different. The Tenerife side carved out the first chance in the 11th minute when midfielder Johnny struck a goal bound shot but Lanzarote´s keeper Agoney made light work of the save.

After the initial scare the Rojillos began to show why they have been shooting up the league table and began to dominate possession.

In the 23rd minute it was bad news for manager Adolfo Pérez as he was forced into a substitution as his in form midfielder Marcos Cabrera picked up an injury and was replaced by Fellani lookalike Kilian. The Lanzarote manager was already without some of his top players through suspension or injury including his captain and leading scorer Rosmen.

Even without their stalwart players Lanzarote´s squad this season seems united and it has been easily noticeable how this bond has played its part in the success in the early part of this season.

On the half hour mark striker Mauri came close but his strike was saved by the Tenerife keeper’s foot. Five minutes later and Louis Kennedy forced the keeper into a good save from a header.

In the 37th minute Lanzarote´s pressure paid off when a hand ball was spotted by the Ref from a Vera defender and immediately ordered a penalty.

With Rosmen injured up stepped British boy Louis Kennedy. His poor manager will be having nightmares about this piece of play. The 20 year old winger kept his eye on the keeper going one way so he gently chipped the ball into the centre of the goal whilst the keeper watched from the ground in despair.

Lanzarote then went into the break with a 0-1 advantage and their manager just being able to regain his breath.

The home side moved up a gear in the early stages of the second half and their cause was helped as Lanzarote again went down to ten men for the second week in succession  as new boy Jeremy picking up his second yellow card and was sent off just after the hour.

The Tenerife side wasted no time with their man advantage as a minute after the sending off they were level with an excellent header from Johnny. In the 77th minute the locals were just a post away from taking the lead as Dani saw his effort fly off the upright.

Lanzarote defended well and everybody believed the match would end in a draw. Nobody could have predicted what would happen deep into stoppage time.

Substitute Toñito who only arrived on the pitch in the 85th minute shocked the Tenerife goalkeeper and everybody else in the stadium with an outrageous 40 yard rocket to give his side three priceless points, their first away win whilst moving his side up to second position in the Tercera Division (Fourth Tier).

As can only be imagined Toñito was mobbed by the entire team and all connected to the leagues current second best side.

Lanzarote´s home match this weekend is on Sunday 9th November at 12 noon versus Tenerife side Las Zocas. The Rojillos are the only side in this league to still have a 100% home record after winning all five home games. If you are on the island this is a must do. See you Sunday. I will be running the Lanzarote Megastore next to the bar.

On the down side for Lanzarote the superb central defender Luis Arráez was injured late on. It has just become apparent that Luis´s injury is serious as he has just been ruled out for the rest of the season and is waiting for a cruciate and cartlidge operation on his left leg. I am sure from all Lanzarote supporters we wish Luis a speedy recovery.
