CD TENERIFE B 1 LANZAROTE 2

CD TENERIFE B   1   LANZAROTE   2, 21st December 2014

After An incredible run of form with 8 wins, 2 draws and just a single defeat in their last 11 games UD Lanzarote are deservedly top of the league and will be going into the New Year full of confidence.

After having lost many of their regular first team players to rivals Yaiza because of financial reasons Rojillos manager Adolfo Pérez was forced to introduce a lot of young blood this season. Home form has been great but initially away form was very poor but this has now been rectified with four wins in their last five outings.

Adolfo´s aim was to reach 40 points and safety by the end of the season and here we are not even at the half way point and the club has 37 points. Congratulations Adolfo, not only are the team winning games but the quality of play has been outstanding. The British players 21 year old Louis Kennedy and 19 year old Brad Cockerill have established themselves as regulars and somehow seem to improve on every game.

The manager, President and all the players have spoken to me on how much they love seeing the expat fans and on how they get behind their team even when things look gloomy. Not many at the club speak English so it is difficult for them to show their appreciation but I can assure you it is there. In the New Year they will be hoping for an increase on this because the only goal now must be promotion back into Spain’s Bronze league Segunda B (League 1) and they are desperate for more support.

The character of this side is the best I have seen for years and again against Tenerife´s second eleven they had to come from behind to claim victory.

Ex Lanzarote manager Quico de Diego´s side had much of the early possession but were finding it difficult to find a way through the Rojillo wall. The breakthrough for the home side came in the 26th minute when striker Victor Garcia struck though the Lanzarote keeper Agoney was unlucky not to save his effort. The home side went into the break with a 1-0 deserved but narrow lead.

Possession was much more even in the second period and on the hour mark Rojillos srtriker Mauri was brought down and Lanzarote were awarded a penalty. Rosmen struck the ball home to level the score at 1-1.

In the 76th minute Toñito launched in a corner and the in form Lanzarote Captain Rosmen headed home putting his side 2-1 up and improved his goal tally to 13 goals two more than anyone else in the league.

Both sides had an opportunity to score with Mauri coming close for the Rojillos and a late save from Agoney prevented the home side spoiling Lanzarote´s extended Christmas party.

We are now in the traditional Spanish Christmas break and return with two home games to kick the New Year off. First up will be on the weekend of 3/4th Jan versus UD Ibarra followed a week later by SD Tenisca.

On behalf of Lanzarote´s manager, players, President and Directors as well as myself I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Rock on Rojillos!
