The home side went into this game on the back of five consecutive defeats though were not short of confidence in the opening stages of this match.

The Gran Canarian side who before today’s match were rooted to the bottom of the league earned themselves a penalty in the 16th minute when Rojillos keeper Agoney clearly brought down midfielder Joshua on the edge of the box.

The Lanzarote number one made amends for his mistake with a low diving save which was edging inside his left hand post.

The hosts undaunted by their failure to take the lead continued to control possession in the first half and it wasn’t until late on in the half where Lanzarote had their first opportunity. Striker Jonathan Quintero forced goalkeeper Salas into a good save smothering the ball from Lanzarote´s new striker’s feet.

Only four minutes into the second half Kennedy played a one two with sub Borja and sent in a dangerous low cross that found Quintero, the tall centre forward improvised brilliantly with his back to goal by scoring with a back heel to seal his first strike for the club and give his new team a 0-1 lead.

This goal gave the Rojillos confidence and they pressed forward in search of the goal to give them breathing space.  British boy Louis Kennedy sent in a beauty of a cross from the left over to the far post which was set up perfectly for a first time strike from Toñito. The Lanzarote winger unselfishly but incorrectly pulled the ball back for Quintero but a defender read the situation and cleared.

The home side then began to gain control of the game and levelled in the 66th minute with a superb individual goal from Carlos Fernández . He cut inside and flew past a couple of defenders before placing the ball curling into the top right hand corner beating the outstretched Lanzarote keeper.

Five minutes later and Unión Viera had turned the score around completely.  The hosts won the ball in midfield switched play from right to left leaving the Lanzarote defence stretched. A strike from Héctor was saved by Agoney but unfortunately for Lanzarote the ball rolled along the six yard box and Carlos Fernández had the easy task of tapping the ball home to give his side a 2-1 lead.

With 14 minutes remaining Kennedy beat a defender and whipped in another excellent cross and Jonathan Quintero used the power of the cross to place his header just inside the near post which made the score 2-2.

Both sides had opportunities to win the match but it would have been harsh for one team not to get anything from the game.

Next Sunday Lanzarote will definitely be in search of a win at home at 12 noon versus 14th placed Tenerife side Las Zocas.
