It does sound as though this was a classic six goal thriller but this couldn’t have been further from the truth as the game only came to life in the closing stages. In all fairness both sides were relatively poor as were the officials however there were some excellent goals.

In the 11th minute a through ball from Borja found Krispy ghosting in around the back of the defence, his excellent first touch took him round the keeper and from a narrow angle he slid the ball home to give the travelling fans an early cheer as Lanzarote went 0-1 up.

Another good game for right wingback Krispy.

That cheer didn’t last long as the home side levelled just two minutes later.  A free kick floated in from a central position was met with a thumping header from 10 yards by centre back Seven across the goal and into the top left hand corner leaving Rojillos keeper Agoney as a spectator.

The Majoreros  (Fuerteventurians) began the season in terrible fashion and were rock bottom of the league late November but then four wins in six matches has seen them climb out of the bottom three and up to 16th spot.

The home side ended the half the better of the two sides and came so close to going into the break with the lead when defender Adargoma saw his strike from eight yards come crashing off the crossbar.

Lanzarote came out for the second half and had two good chances to go in front. Borja narrowly shooting wide of the post then a Javi Betancort header forced a good save from the keeper.

In the 56th minute Rojillos midfielder Ayoze Pérez robbed the ball off the left winger near the corner flag, as he broke away the Fuerteventura player tracked back and slid in and won back possession for his side. The ball was picked up by striker Juanmi and with two touches he let rip from 20 yards and even though Agoney got a hand to the ball it was still a wonderful strike that nestled into the top left corner to give the home side a 2-1 lead.

Things got worse for the Rojillos on the hour mark when leading scorer Quintero got involved in a small fracas which led him to picking up his second yellow card and Lanzarote were forced to play the remaining half hour with ten men.

As the game entered into the final minutes Lanzarote had no choice but to gamble and push players forward. In the 88th minute a corner for the Rojillos was cleared and the home side broke with pace. Winger Cristian sailed past Lanzarote´s last man and squared the ball to Roberto who had the easy task to tap the ball home and give his side an unassailable 3-1 lead or so he thought.

Lanzarote did not drop their heads at all and two minutes into stoppage time Krispy launched the ball forward. The tall Lanzarote captain Rosmen made life difficult for the keeper forcing him into a poor punch, the ball landed to the feet of sub Javi Melian who calmly let the ball drop before picking his spot from eight yards to make it 3-2 and give his team a glimmer of hope.

A brilliant ending for the travelling fans.

90 seconds later and a long throw from Raúl on the right found Rosmen on the edge of the six yard box he flicked on and Javi Betancort used all of his neck muscles at the near post to flick the ball into the centre and the formally Lanzarote goal shy striker Javi Melian got his foot over the ball and volleyed into the back of the net to send his side and travelling bunch of fans into hysteria.

This has not been the best of seasons to date but Lanzarote´s last two matches have been away and they have picked up four points. Only runaway league leaders Las Palmas B have lost fewer games than Lanzarote this season but home form must improve.

The Rojillos are still in ninth position and trail a playoff spot by seven points. Manager Adolfo Pérez will be hoping for a home victory this Sunday 15th Jan at 12 noon to 13th placed side Estrella CF. The Gran Canarian outfit have just picked up three points in their last five games so the Lanzarote fans will be expecting a win.
