U.D. CRUZ SANTA   0   LANZAROTE   1    12th Dec 2015

The Rojillos remain in top spot following a narrow win against the leagues bottom club with striker Javi Melián securing all three points with a first half winner.

The Tenerife side had the better of the opening exchanges but their lack of firepower is proving to be a huge problem.  The newly promoted side have found the net on just six occasions in their sixteen matches played.

In the 17th minute a defensive mix up for the home team cost them dearly as Lanzarote striker Javi Melián found himself completely unmarked on the edge of the box and chipped the advanced keeper giving his side a 0-1 lead.

Lanzarote began to dictate the pace of the game but just before half time all hell broke loose. The hosts believed that they had scored a rare goal but the linesman had his flag raised for an offside infringement, this did not please the home crowd. One of Cruz Santa´s fans even spat at the official and this gave the referee no choice but to suspend the match for 20 minutes until the police had arrived and things on the terrace began to cool down.

Three minutes into the second half and Louis Kennedy seemed as though he was brought down in the penalty area but it would have been a tough call for the Ref to give a penalty in these circumstances and the official waived off the claims for a spot kick.

The Tenerife side had a couple of chances to level the match but with Lanzarote working as a good defensive unit these chances were far and few between. The Rojillos could begin their Christmas party taking home maximum points and maintain leadership of the league by two points.

Next week Lanzarote are at home against mid table Tenerife side Las Zocas. This game has been confirmed for Sunday 20th Dec at 12 noon kick off.
