UD IBARRA   0   LANZAROTE   2      23rd Dec 2015

The Rojillos go into Christmas and the New Year as leaders of the Tercera Division by two clear points following the win against fellow title rivals with goals from Toñito and British boy Louis Kennedy.

The Tenerife side controlled much of the possession in the first half but an ever increasing confident defence of Lanzarote coped with the danger.

It was Lanzarote who had the first opportunity in the 3rd minute. Louis Kennedy capitalized on a poor clearance by the Ibarra keeper however the keeper did make amends saving well from the strike of the British winger.

In the 28th minute defender Falo was forced to save on the goal line from an indirect free kick inside the area awarded for a pass back by Javi Betancort. For the remainder of the half it was the home side who pressed forward but their danger man Matias was closely followed by veteran Ángel Gil who prevented any danger with his stalwart defending.

A good team goal gave Lanzarote the lead six minutes before half time. Louis Kennedy darted down the right wing and fed striker Mauri, the Colombian who has been short of goals but certainly not short in team play then laid the ball onto Toñito who simply stroked the ball home to give his side a 0-1 lead to take into the break.

The home side began the second period increasing the intensity of the match but that quickly died down as the Rojillo defence stood firm.

Ten minutes into the half and once again it was Mauri who left his defender for dead flying down the right wing. Kennedy read the script and met the ball from the Colombian and rifled it home to give his side breathing space with a 0-2 lead.

The home side immediately brought on striker Balduino who began to give the Rojillos problems. He forced Lanzarote keeper Agoney into a fine fisted save in the 69th minute and three minutes later the Ibarra forward shot narrowly wide from a free kick.

In the 79th minute Agoney produced another good save from defender Aarón Darias to keep the home side at bay.

The Lanzarote defence played superbly and nullified all that the Tenerife outfit were throwing at them. In the 87th minute midfielder Javi Betancort picked up his second yellow card and the Rojillos were forced to play with ten men.

From somewhere the Ref found twelve minutes of injury time but by then the ideas from Ibarra had dried up as Lanzarote recorded a brilliant away win to go top over the festive period.

Next Sunday 3rd January Lanzarote are at home versus bottom club Atlético Granadilla at a confirmed time of 12 noon.
