U.D. IBARRA   2   LANZAROTE   2,   12th October 2019,

After dominating most of this entertaining match the Rojillos let slip two points as the hosts earned a point from the penalty spot in added on time.

Lanzarote looked sharp in the initial stages and it was only the fourth minute when Miguel Gómez hit one of his trademark 20 yard thunderbolts. With the ball swerving left and right the keeper did well to parry his effort for a corner.

Striker Aday López looked much sharper on his first start for the club. In the 22nd minute he must have thought that he had scored his first Rojillo goal but his strike from eight yards was saved by the outstretched leg of the keeper.

A few of Lanzarote´s travelling fans enjoyed the match despite their side dropping two points at the death.

The opening goal came from the resulting corner. Miguel Gómez whipped in a super inswinging corner and defender Adrián timed his run perfectly glancing the ball into the bottom left hand corner to give Lanzarote a 0-1 lead.

Almost instantly the Tenerife side could have levelled. A long ball was superbly brought down by striker Jonathan Sesma but the soon to be 41 year old saw his second touch fly over the crossbar.

The home side gradually came into the game and in the 32nd minute a ball into the centre was again brought down expertly by the veteran but this time he kept his shot low and beat keeper Leo with ease to make the score 1-1.

Lanzarote began the second half as they had begun the first and were eager to regain the lead. In the 48th minute Miguel Gómez had an effort ruled out for offside and a couple of minutes later a great effort from winger Alex Fuentes saw his strike from the edge of the box rattle the top of the crossbar.

In the 82nd minute a good strong run by sub Rami down the right resulted in the defender wrestling him down and winning his side a penalty. Rosmen who had replaced Aday López sent the keeper the wrong way and once again Lanzarote were in front 2-1.

Lanzarote had chances throughout this match to kill the game but in the 91st minute the home side were awarded a clear penalty when striker Coly was brought down.

Jonathan Sesma who has spent two seasons in Spain’s Primera Liga made no mistake and the game was level at 2-2.

The Rojillos had one last chance to win the match, a quick free kick by Juanma found Adrián free of his marker but what proved to be the last kick of the match went past the left hand post to safety.

An away point is never bad but if Lanzarote want to be in those top four positions in May these are the games that they must start winning. The Rojillos stand in 8th spot, four points from the playoffs and just a further point off league leaders CD Marino.

Next Sunday 20th October at 12 noon Lanzarote are at home versus second from bottom side Atlético Union de Guímar.
