The Rojillos maintain their unbeaten run this season after earning a well earned point against a side that are one of the favourites to win this league.

The Gran Canarian side had the upper hand in the first half and did have an effort striking the woodwork, though in most areas their attacking options were met with a well organised defence.

Rojillos manager Jero Santana shuffled his team for the second half and even though the locals had the majority of possession it was Lanzarote who looked the most likely to score with Ayoze Pérez coming close on a couple of occasions.

Midway through the second half the Rojillos replaced Rosmen and Ayoze Pérez with strikers Rami and debutant Aday López which injected energy into the Rojillos frontline.

Late on last season’s champions gathered momentum and goalkeeper Leo Méndes produced a good save in injury time to help his side win that excellent point. The 18 year old keeper has now played one and a half matches with the first team and is yet to be beaten.

For 24 hours Lanzarote moved into top spot in the league but after Sunday’s matches they are now in 5th just one point from the playoffs and a further two points from league leaders CD Marino.

Next Sunday 6th October at 12 noon Lanzarote are home against 9th placed side UD San Fenanado.

On a sad note we have to say a farewell to Lanzarote fan Brian Scott. Brian and his wife Margaret came to live on Lanzarote several years ago and became ardent Rojillo fans.

Brian with his wife Margaret of whom he had been married to for 47 years.

Brian fell ill a couple of years ago and they returned to Newcastle. Unfortunately Brian lost his battle last Saturday and I am sure on behalf of all your many friends living on the island and every Rojillo supporter worldwide we offer our deepest sympathies and condolences to Margaret and all their family and friends. R.I.P. Brian.
