S.D TENISCA 2 – 2 U.D LANZAROTE

SD TENISCA    2    LANZAROTE    2,     22nd Jan 2017,

The Rojillos come home with a point in an extremely entertaining game where both sides had taken the lead and with the last kick of the match in the fifth minute of injury time the hosts missed a penalty.

Football always brings up provocative and interesting issues. Tenisca striker Dani López began the season wearing the Rojillo shirt. After only a few games for Lanzarote the La Palma striker was unable to settle into his new team and was granted permission to leave the club and return to his island where he was somehow allowed to sign for rivals Tenisca.
The small yet lethal striker scored two goals and missed a penalty with the last kick of the match however his replacement Jonathan Quintero has been an outstanding signing for Lanzarote and scored his side’s two goals.

The game began at a good tempo and didn’t slow down the entire match. Players were committed in tackles but were fair in doing so. The neatly cut and good playing surface of the Tenisca pitch which is one of only two natural grass pitches in the Canarian league aided to what was a fast and passionate match.

The home side went 1-0 up in the 9th minute. Dani López struck a free kick outside the box but the ball hit the wall and once again fell to the league’s top scorer who struck a volley which was deflected and eventually ran under the body of a hugely disappointed Rojillos goalkeeper Agoney.

Not one of his best day’s at the office but still a good performance by the Rojillos keeper.

Ten minutes on and the locals could have doubled their lead but keeper Agoney made amends for his early error when he produced a fine save from who else but Dani López.

It only took Lanzarote eight minutes to respond. A corner from the right by Louis Kennedy found Johnathan Quintero in the six yard box and the tall center forward nodded the ball low into the bottom left hand corner to put Lanzarote level at 1-1. Even though the game remained intense the sides went into the half time break all square at one apiece.

The Rojillos had a brilliant start to the second half, a clearance by Krispy was hoisted up field and the ever alert Quintero timed his run to perfection and without taking a touch blasted the ball into the top right hand corner to send Lanzarote into a 1-2 lead.

Another outstanding match by our leading goalscorer Quintero.

Another outstanding match from our leading goalscorer Quintero.

If anything it was probably too early in the second half to go in front as Tenisca who are sitting one place above Lanzarote in the league table are also desperately looking for a playoff finish and were never going to lay down and take kindly to a defeat.

The home side as expected dominated possession but Lanzarote´s defence was well organised and didn’t allow the sixth placed side any sight of goal. Nevertheless as the game entered into the final ten minutes and the pressure intensified the home side eventually forced the goal.

Dani López from eight yards had the opportunity to strike first time but as all good strikers do he kept his composure brought the ball down and with one touch created the opening to fire past the Lanzarote keeper and made no mistake levelling the score at 2-2.

Deep into injury time Dani López was clean through and looked to have won the game for his side but was brought down by Agoney. Inevitably the official produced a red card for the Lanzarote keeper and a penalty was correctly awarded to the home side.

Agoney doing his best to stop the in form Ex-Rojillo Dani López.

As Dani López stepped up to win the game for his team and complete a hat trick he saw his strike thunder back off the crossbar to the relief of all in a red shirt and then the referee blew for full time.

The Rojillos in the end were content in catching their third then fourth flight of the day back to Lanzarote with a hard earned point.

Lanzarote slip to ninth spot in the table but are still seven points off the playoffs. Next Sunday 29th January at 12 noon they will have a great opportunity to close that gap when they face bottom club UD Telde at home.
