REAL SPORTING SAN JOSÉ   2   LANZAROTE   3,

15th November 2014

The Rojillos season is just going from strength to strength. Their second successive away win along with formidable home form has pushed Lanzarote back to second spot in the Tercera Division (Fourth Tier).

Once again it was the born again winger Toñito who stole the show. Coming on as a sub and scoring with his first touch and then firing in the winner five minutes from time.

Neither team were dominant in the opening stages but it was the Gran Canarian side that had the best chances. In the 8th minute the home side had two great opportunities to take the lead. A header from defender Espino and an effort from striker Robert tested the superb reflexes of the Lanzarote keeper Agoney.

Lanzarote didn’t give Real Sporting any time on the ball however the home side were the more dangerous in the first period and were unlucky not to go in front in the latter stages of the half when they saw a strike hit the top of the Lanzarote woodwork.

Four minutes into the second half and Lanzarote were 0-1 up. New boy Jeremy hit a free kick from the left which was slightly deflected by a defender, nevertheless the ball ended up in the back of the net giving him his first goal for the club.

The home side began to take some risks pushing players forward. Another great stop by Agoney from close range prevented Real Sporting levelling through sub Aníbal.

In the 71st minute Toñito replaced the injured Louis Kennedy and with his first touch neatly sent Lanzarote 0-2 up giving his side a goal cushion.

Anyone who has ever played football will know that a lead of two goals will never win a match until the Ref has blown his whistle for full time.

The home side did not drop their heads and within five minutes of Lanzarote´s second goal they pulled one back with Aníbal latching on to a loose ball and firing it home to make it 1-2.

Three minutes later and the Gran Canarian side were level at 2-2 with a super header from defender Samuel.

With the game level the home side were full of gusto in the belief that they were going to win this match. With five minutes remaining Toñito shocked the locals with a free kick from the edge of the box just going under the bar and into the net giving Lanzarote back the advantage at 2-3.

Real Sporting had no choice and went hell for leather in the closing minutes. Deep into stoppage time the home side won a corner and sent up goalkeeper Cicovic. Amazingly he got his head on the ball and it was only a fine save from his opposite number that prevented him spoiling the party for Lanzarote on their flight home.

With this second consecutive away win the Rojillos now presently own second spot in the table two points behind league leaders CD Marino. A couple of weeks ago the away match for Lanzarote against CD Marino was postponed because of heavy rain in Tenerife, this match will be played Wednesday afternoon and should Lanzarote win they will be top of the league. Lanzarote´s next home game is a tasty derby match versus Fuerteventura side CD Cotillo on Sunday 23rd at 12 noon.

It looks like British boy Louis Kennedy will be missing at least two matches and possibly three with the sprained ankle he suffered in this match. This is a real pity as he has been in shockingly good form.
