UD VILLA SANTA BRÍGIDA 3 LANZAROTE 1, 16th September 2018,
The Rojillos miss out on taking top spot despite going in to the half time break with a 0-1 lead and slip to fourth position after four games following their first defeat of the season.
Lanzarote began the match the better of the two sides and in the 13th minute were awarded a penalty when Dani García was brought down in the box.
Rojillo captain Rosmen celebrated his 38th birthday firing the ball home to give his side a deserved 0-1 lead.
The goal gave life to the Gran Canarian side but it was the visitors who looked the more dangerous. Shortly before the break winger Jordi came agonizingly close to doubling his sides lead but his effort came crashing back off the post.
In the opening stages of the second half the Rojillos went in search of the goal to give them breathing space. Nico González came close and an effort only inches wide from Striker Alex Yunes prevented Lanzarote from extending their lead.
It proved to be the same story as the home match from last week when Lanzarote took the lead and had numerous occasions to kill off the game but then paid the price by not doing so.
In the 56th minute a cross was headed home by striker Pablo Álvarez to level at 1-1 and just three minutes later the home side were awarded a hotly disputed penalty. Nevertheless a penalty was given which was dispatched by Santi and the Gran Canarian side found themselves 2-1 in front.
The Rojillos tried to get back into the game but the home sides defence was organised and there was to be no way through.
In the 66th minute the hosts who had soaked in the pressure then hit Lanzarote with a third and decisive goal. Pablo Álvarez scored his second of the match with another header to give Villa Santa Brígida the 3-1 advantage.
Lanzarote tried to reduce the deficit but the home defence closed shop and left the Rojillos frustrated.
Lanzarote drop two positions to fourth place but are only two points off league leaders CF Pulido who were beaten away by Yaiza whom move up to fifth position.
Next Sunday 23rd September at 12 noon Lanzarote are at home to second place Gran Canarian side UD Tamaraceite.
