This highly awaited match with both of the islands sides winning their opening 16 matches did not disappoint as over 500 fans enjoyed an intense and well fought out match.

Both teams had opportunities in an entertaining opening period but neither deserved to be behind as they went into the break goalless.

Lanzarote had the better goal difference and were therefore top of the women’s Preferente Canarian league with the third placed team eight points adrift.

It seemed that it was impossible to separate the passion of these girls but a passage of play in the 65th minute proved to be the decisive factor.

Lanzarote striker Cristina threw herself at the ball and was so unlucky to see her brilliant header from ten yards thunder back off the crossbar. Puerto Del Carmen broke and 30 seconds later found the winner with Nieves firing home to give the visitors a 0-1 lead.

Lanzarote gave all their heart and fight but were met by a bunch of ladies with equal resilience and could not find a way through to level.

Lanzarote will have the opportunity later on in the season to avenge this defeat when they play the away match in Puerto Del Carmen.
