The Rojillos dominated this match from the opening whistle and the whole team put in an exceptional performance which has pushed Lanzarote up the table and into the final playoff position, fourth spot.
In the 9th minute new boy Alex Fuentes worked a one two with Rosmen and then hit a thundering volley from 20 yards that crashed against the underside of the bar and bounced back out to safety. From this moment the Gran Canarian side got a feel of what was about to come.
Lanzarote pressured their opponents desperately looking to take a lead into the break. In the 25th minute Rosmen nodded down to Alex Fuentes, he held off defenders fed the ball to Ayoze Pérez and from eight yards Mr Reliable gave his team the deserved 1-0 breakthrough.
The second goal arrived in the 35th minute, great work from Ayoze down the right flank beating two defenders then supplying Rosmen at the near post, the Lanzarote captain proving at 39 years of age that not only his fitness is still in top form but his awareness seems to be getting stronger as he neatly touched the ball into the path of Nico González.
The Argentinean fired the trigger from eight yards sending the ball into the top left hand corner and Lanzarote were 2-0 up.
The visitors had offered very little in the final third but in the 39th minute striker Juanma had a golden opportunity to pull a goal back. He was sent through the middle but his curling strike from the edge of the box whistled past the left hand post.
Lanzarote had chances to increase the score before the interval, the best of which was a corner from Ayoze on the right, defender Raúl rose the highest and powered in a header from eight yards only to see the keeper pull off an outstanding save tipping the ball over at full flight for another corner kick.
At half time Lanzarote were forced to replace injured keeper Ruymán who had picked up an ankle injury and this forced youngster Leo Méndes on for his debut.
The Rojillos didn’t have to wait long to find that killer third goal. In the 48th minute the exciting winger Alex Fuentes who caused havoc all afternoon for the Santa Brígida defence perfectly teed up Nico González to slot home from 10 yards for his second and his team’s third goal.
In the 58th minute a difficult back pass put the debutant keeper under pressure, the 18 year old has been talked about by many people believing he has a great future in the game, Leo confidently received the ball, feigned a pass beating the striker and cleared comfortably to a team mate, great work from the youngster and exceptional confidence.
In the 67th minute a cross from right back Camacho found probably Lanzarote´s best player on the day Miguel Gopar. The midfielder used all his neck muscles in powering a header home from eight yards to give his side a 4-0 advantage.
Lanzarote were now in cruise control and assured of their first home win this season.
Moments later the officials stopped the match as they did midway through the first half in order for the players to have a drinks break in the scorching September heat.
Front man Rosmen led by example and even with the game already in the bag he was closing down defenders, winning the ball and still full of enthusiasm.
The veteran got his reward in the 87th minute when a cross from sub Rami was handled by a defender and the official pointed to the spot. The big man ran up and thrashed the ball home to complete a great afternoon’s work.
More good news from Lanzarote is that star man Miguel Gómez is back in training and healing fast however it is doubtful that he will be fit this Sunday but I could be wrong.
Next Saturday Lanzarote have a very difficult away game in Gran Canaria against last season’s champions UD Tamaraceite.
