LANZAROTE   3   CF UNIÓN VIERA   4

One thing Lanzarote haven’t been short of this season is entertaining football at home. In the 14 matches played, there have been 58 goals scored which averages at just over four goals per match. The game against Gran Canarian side Unión Viera was just another seven goal thriller.

From the kick off it was easy to see why Unión Viera were sitting in third place in the league table. Superb quick passing and terrific movement forced the Rojillos to defend.

Midway through the first half and winger Néstor who caused havoc for the Lanzarote defence flying down the right flank whipped in a beauty of a cross and midfielder Borja Herrera used the power of the cross to glance the ball home leaving the Lanzarote keeper no chance and sent his side 0-1 up.

Whilst the Gran Canarian side looked slick and looked favourites to score the next goal Lanzarote´s experienced duo of Jotha and Rosmen punished them from a free kick earned by British boy Ryan Macphee.

From two yards outside the area and in a central position Jotha surprised the visitors by quickly touching the ball to his right and Rosmen was clean through and slid the ball wide of the keeper into the left hand corner to even the score up at one apiece.

In the 38th minute Borja Herrera broke free of his marker and met a cross from Barrios and the result was the same as his first header leaving the Lanzarote keeper motionless and his team regaining the lead by 1-2.

Again, after only four minutes from going behind the Rojillos were back on level pegging. Following a series of chances the ball fell kindly to Javi Betancort and from six yards the midfielder blasted home to make the score 2-2 at the half time break.

Ten minutes into the second period and the Rojillos were in front for the first time in the match when Echedey tapped the ball home to make the score 3-2.

In the 69th minute another cross in from Barrios from the wing found the unstoppable Borja Herrera for his third header of the match to complete his hat trick and put his side back on even terms at 3-3.

A few minutes later and Lanzarote went so close to regaining the lead but Rosmen´s effort agonisingly hit the post and was cleared.

Lanzarote Captain and playmaker Jotha suffered an injury and was forced to limp off. Without his presence in the centre of the park the visitors took the initiative and began to control midfield.

With five minutes remaining Unión Viera won a free kick from a narrow angle on the right wing. Defender Xiraxi surprised the Lanzarote keeper with a strike which nestled into the top right hand corner that shocked the local fans but nevertheless won all three points for the visitors in a highly entertaining match played in hot conditions.

The Rojillos remain in 14th spot and have a trip to La Palma next week when they face mid table side SD Tenisca.
