LANZAROTE 3 C.D. MARINO 1

LANZAROTE   3   C.D. MARINO   1       28th Feb 2016,

Lanzarote blew away relegation threatened CD Marino with three goals in the opening half hour to return back to the top of the league. The day previous Gran Canarian side Villa Santa Brígida claimed top spot with a 1-0 win.

Lanzarote now lead the table by a point however next week they travel to face fourth placed side SD Tenisca and any of the leading four teams could be league leaders next week which shows how congested the top of the table is.

C.D. Marino have had a tough season this year with many of their regular players and management opting for another club last summer; this has resulted with a team who are regularly in the top six fighting a relegation battle. Prior to today just a single goal was preventing them being in the bottom three.

The Rojillos objective was obvious from the start, close down and put the visitors under pressure early.

In the eighth minute Kennedy won his side a free kick on the right wing, Marcos Cabrera swung in a cross and a great leap from midfielder Javi Betancort saw his well placed header go out of reach of the Marino keeper and inside the left hand post and the Rojillos were 1-0 up.

In the 12th minute Louis Kennedy swung in a beauty of a cross skimming off the wet surface with the downpour that had occurred and just missing out on pouncing was skipper Rosmen though Toñito on the far post latched on to the ball but his effort was deflected away to safety.

Five minutes later and the Tenerife side tried to play the ball out of their own third but were met with Kennedy, Rosmen and Toñito immediately putting pressure on the defence. The ball fell to Louis Kennedy and from 20 yards the British player fired in a low curling drive which found the bottom left hand corner to double his sides lead.

In the 22nd minute Toñito toe poked a goal bound effort which was deflected away for a corner. The Rojillos were rampant now and were constantly at the throats of their opponents.

In the 29th minute the game was just about put to bed when defender Ángel Gil drilled in a curling cross from the right wing and from 10 yards Rosmen fired the ball into the top left hand corner leaving the keeper motionless and his side cruising to a 3-0 half time lead.

The second half began as the first half had ended with the Rojillos being completely dominant. Seven minutes into the period and Kennedy dived low and headed the ball into the net though the winger was a yard offside as spotted by the official.

On the hour mark Marcos Cabrera´s free kick found Rosmen and Lanzarote´s leading scorer headed powerfully downwards but the Tenerife keeper made an outstanding save palming the ball over the crossbar to keep the score at 3-0.

Toñito and Rosmen both had chances to extend the lead but fired wide.  With 10 minutes remaining some super one touch passing  involving Marcos Cabrera and Kennedy freed sub Javi Melián in the box, the striker blasted the ball which looked as though he had scored but Marino keeper Marko somehow got a part of his body to his strike and the ball deflected away to safety.

In added on time the visitors scored from a corner as the Lanzarote defence faultless all day fell to sleep for a moment and a mishit shot somehow found its way in by striker Adán to make the final result 3-1.

The Tenerife side remain out of the relegation places on goal difference and face a fight for survival whilst Lanzarote reignited their league winning credentials with their first win in six games.

The Rojillos have a very difficult schedule ahead of them starting away with 4th placed side SD Tenisca next week then at home in the derby match versus Yaiza and then once again away this time to 2nd placed side Las Palmas B.
