U.D LANZAROTE 1-5 C.D TENERIFE B

LANZAROTE   1   CD TENERIFE B   5,    30th April 2017,

A disastrous opening half hour resulted in the Tenerife B team having four shots at goal scoring all of them and to make matters worse if that could possibly happen Lanzarote had a player sent off and were forced to play 70 minutes of the match with 10 men.

Rojillos manager Adolfo Pérez announced during the week that his five year reign in charge of UD Lanzarote would be coming to an end at the end of the season and maybe this had something to do with a static defence in the opening 20 minutes.

The two Tenerife front men were running rings around a schoolboy defence. In the 6th and 14th minutes the visitors punished poor defending and were already 0-2 up with both goals scored by striker Darixon Vuelto.

The Rojillos did reply well. In the 19th minute a corner was whipped in and defender Fran Gil rose well timing his powerful header low into the bottom left hand corner but remarkably the Tenerife keeper Ángel Galvan produced a save which can only be described as a “Gordon Banks”.  This was a piece of magic as he dived low and somehow managed to get his hand under the ball on the goal line and guide it over the bar.

In the space of two minutes Fran Gil was inexcusably given his second yellow card as Lanzarote were reduced to ten men and the visitors once again punished an even more fragile defence to take a 0-3 lead within the space of 20 minutes with a tap in at the far post by an unmarked Faridi Mussa.

Not the start the Rojillos had in mind.

Lanzarote then dropped British boy Brad into central defence and this did begin to steady the ship and allow the Rojillos to start playing football.

In the 25th minute left back Javi Navarro was completely taken out of the game with a knee high tackle and whilst the referee sensibly played the advantage he did not go back and produce a card which many people believed warranted red.

As Lanzarote seemed to be coming to terms from been bomb blasted a wonder strike from nowhere by Captain Gopar went straight into the top right hand corner not leaving keeper Agoney  any chance in preventing  the visitors from going 0-4 up in the 32nd minute.

Ayoze Pérez reduced the deficit six minutes later when his 20 yard free kick cleared the wall and dipped into the bottom left hand corner leaving the keeper motionless. The Rojillos went into the half time break with their ten souls trailing 1-4.

Most of the fans stayed to watch their side produce an excellent second half performance but with all the Rojillos determination and passion they could not get past a possible man of the match performance from the Tenerife keeper.

There was a moment of brilliance when Borja beat two players down the left with his electrically quick feet; his low excellent cross found Lanzarote´s leading goal scorer Quintero but his scuffed effort flew over the crossbar.

With Lanzarote pushing forward the visitors made them pay in the 76th minute. A quick counter attack down the right wing was executed with a deadly finish from 5 yards by Faridi Mussa to make the final score 1-5.

After this fourth successive defeat Lanzarote slip to 10th spot and will face local rivals U.S Yaiza next week. The other island side have fared much better this season and are in 6th spot. Lanzarote will want to mathematically end any faint hopes that their island neighbours have of reaching the playoffs.

The local derby will be at the Yaiza stadium this Sunday 7th May at 12 noon kick off.
