CLUB ATLÉTICO TACORONTE 3 LANZAROTE 0, 27th October 2019,
Three goals in the final half hour deepen the pressure on manager Jero Santana and all involved with UD Lanzarote.
It has been five weeks since the Rojillos tasted victory and during that time they have picked up just three points in those five matches and have slipped down to 11th spot.
The Tenerife side shocked Lanzarote in their first attack in the opening minute when a cross from the right fell to striker Cristo Díaz but his strike hit the crossbar.
There was plenty of action in the first half but after this initial scare for Lanzarote it was them who had the much better opportunities to take the lead.
The Tenerife keeper was in outstanding form denying Alex Fuentes´s powerful strike then superb reflexes to keep out a point blank header from Rosmen.
Midway through the first half and the Rojillos had a golden chance to get themselves in front when Miguel Gopar was brought down in the box and the official awarded a spot kick. Rosmen struck and fired the ball against the crossbar which did not help with the confidence of his side.
The end of the half arrived goalless but Lanzarote were still confident that they could go on and win the match.
The beginning of the second half proved to be a lot more even with both teams with good chances to break the deadlock.
In the 67th minute a break from the Tenerife side from the right found midfielder Denzel who had the simple task of slotting the ball home from close range to give his side a 1-0 advantage.
Almost immediately Lanzarote had a chance to level with Miguel Gopar at the far post but his effort went into the side netting.
When things are not going well in football it is so hard to stop the decay. Players think too much about their passing, are worried to have a strike and do not play freely as they lack confidence.
Heads seemed to drop and Tacoronte increased their lead to 2-0 in the 79th minute with a very soft goal. Deep into stoppage time the host’s rubbed salt into Lanzarote´s wounds with another to inflict the Rojillos worst defeat in eleven months.
The Tenerife side take over tenth spot as Lanzarote now slip to five points from a playoff finish but also only two points from relegation.
If you do not have bad times in football it is difficult to really understand how good those good times are. The season is a marathon and not a sprint and with 28 games remaining time is on the Rojillos side however to have any chance of ending up in the top four this mini crisis must be halted immediately.
The club and players asks its fans to get 100% behind their team this Sunday 3rd November at 12 noon when Lanzarote take on 8th placed Tenerife side CD Vera.
