CF PANADERÍA PULIDO 0 LANZAROTE 3,
17th December 2016,
Unión Deportiva Lanzarote will go into the Spanish Christmas break in buoyant mood following their biggest away win of the season with another two goals from new signing Jonathan Quintero and a goal from the highly skilful Borja.
The home side who were up until today unbeaten at home this season began the game the better of the two sides. In the 7th minute midfielder Alex Hernández forced a fine save by Rojillos keeper Agoney preventing the Gran Canarian side taking an all important confidence building early lead.
From then on in Lanzarote produced one of their best performances of the season. Good combination play allowed Ayoze Pérez strike at goal only to see his effort clear the bar by just a few inches.
In the 23rd minute Lanzarote were awarded a free kick from 20 yards. The hugely in form striker Jonathan Quintero thumped the ball over the wall and into the top left hand corner to give his side a 0-1 lead.
Just after the half hour the visitors found themselves with a 0-2 advantage when good work from captain Rosmen and Borja on the edge of the area was rewarded when Borja stroked the ball home to give his side a clear lead into the half time break.
The second half couldn’t have begun any better for the Rojillos. In the first minute Quintero produced a carbon copy of his earlier effort though from the right side and effectively ended the match as a contest.
Jonathan Quintero has been a revelation for the club. He only joined the Rojillos a couple of months ago and has already notched up seven goals for his new team and with his six scored for his previous club San Fernando he should easily be challenging for the Pichichis (league’s top scorer).
With their 0-3 advantage the home side did begin to press but Lanzarote´s defence did not switch off and held the concentration until the final whistle.
This was a very welcome win especially after last week’s home derby loss. The Rojillos leapfrog Panadería Pulido to claim 9th spot and reduced the deficit to a playoff position by a point but still trail a top four finish by seven points.
The season returns on Sunday 8th January away versus CD Unión Puerto. Only a few weeks ago the Fuerteventura side looked doomed but four wins in their last five outings have pushed them from bottom up to 16th position in the league and two points clear of relegation.
The club may organise an excursion for this game but I have yet to hear details though as many of us know this can happen without much notice. As soon as I hear I will post on website and on Facebook Lanzarote football club.
The next home game is due on the weekend of 14/15th January, though it will more likely be Sunday 15th at 12 noon but do check a few days before for confirmation.
The season has not been great to date but one thing is certain if Lanzarote do make the playoffs they will be going into them in top form should they reduce that seven point gap.
