CD UNIÓN PUERTO   0   LANZAROTE   1      30 Aug 2015,

The league may be in its infancy but U.D. Lanzarote are sitting on the top of it with maximum points after two matches following this narrow win in Fuerteventura.

An absolute cracking goal from Captain Rosmen in the 37th minute and a penalty save from Rojillos keeper Agoney were the highlights in a game that Lanzarote will be delighted in claiming all three points.

The Rojillos began the match the better of the two sides controlling possession but creating very little in the final third. CD Unión Puerto from Puerto Del Rosario is one of the league’s newcomers and will be bitterly disappointed with the lack of accuracy in their set pieces.

The locals began to level the balance of play and were looking the more dangerous however in the 37th minute with his back to goal and from 25 yards last season’s player of the year Rosmen wrapped his right foot around the ball and on the half volley the ball viciously flew into the top left hand corner leaving the keeper no chance whatsoever and his side with a 1-0 lead.

The seventy or so Lanzarote fans many who had taken up the club offer of the trip for 20 Euros including bus, ferry and a beer and roll were delirious as the teams went into the break with Lanzarote with the narrow advantage.

It wasn’t a very good start to the second half for the visitors when centre back Fran Gil was penalized from a strike inside the area from point blank range. It was harsh on the defender though his hands were above his waist as the Ref had no second thoughts about awarding the home side a penalty kick for hand ball. Fortunately Agoney guessed the correct way to maintain his sides lead.

There were some anxious moments as Lanzarote were pressured but with the Rojillos extremely good defence they managed to keep the home side at bay.

In the 89th minute a second yellow card for the impressive new boy Miguel Gomez reduced Lanzarote to ten men. Adolfo Perez’s men held out and were grateful to catch the ferry ride home with all three points.

Next Sunday at 12 noon Lanzarote are home to third placed side Villa Santa Brígida. The Gran Canarian side also have maximum points after two matches so the unbeaten start for both sides will end for at least one team.
