CD TENERIFE B 2 LANZAROTE 1, 11th February 2018,
The Rojillos put in one of their best away performances of the season against the league leaders and were the better team until Tenerife hit them with two late goals.
Lanzarote pressed the home side from the start and were rewarded just before the half hour with a goal from veteran striker Rosmen when he powered in a header from an Enrique Castaño corner.
In the second half the Rojillos continued to dominate and Javi Betancort came close to extending his sides lead but his effort went inches past the upright.
The Tenerife manager didn’t like the look of the shape of his team and within 15 minutes of the restart gambled on using all of his three substitutions.
In the 79th minute with Lanzarote looking reasonably comfortable, out of the blue came a thunderous 25 yard strike from sub Giovanni which whistled into the top corner to make the score level at 1-1.
The home side now with the initiative pressured the Rojillos though it was Lanzarote who almost regained the lead when Javi Melian forced a good save from keeper Galván in the 84th minute.
Two minutes later and defender Diego Portilla nodded home following a corner to give Tenerife a 2-1 advantage and a couple of minutes later Rojillos keeper Alejandro gave his side hope when he saved a penalty from Giovanni.
Moments later and Javi Melian fed Rosmen in a good position but the Lanzarote striker couldn’t find the net to deservedly earn his side a point.
Lanzarote remain in seventh spot but are now nine points off from a playoff position though with a game in hand. Next Sunday will be a huge home game for the Rojillos as they face fifth placed side UD Ibarra and bid to end their run of four straight losses.
This match is now confirmed for this Sunday 18th February at 4.30pm kick off. The hour has had to be changed to accommodate flights for the Tenerife side.
None of Lanzarote´s teams had a good weekend with Yaiza losing 2-0 to CD Buzanada though they remain in 10th and Haría once again battled but still went down to relegation rivals Estrella CF at home 0-1 and are bottom and are nine points from safety.
