Two goals in the final two minutes of the first half was enough to beat a Lanzarote side who are struggling to find goals this season. Striker Rosmen pulled a goal back in the 65th minute and even though the Rojillos dominated there was no way through the Tenerife defence.

The Rojillos are normally one of the league’s top scorers but this season they have only had a return of 18 goals in their 21 matches played. The only club in the league with a worse record is Racqui San Isidro who are rooted to the bottom of the league with their 15 goals.

Neither side in the opening 15 minutes had a strike at goal but as the half developed both sides had equal opportunities with Yaco and Toñito going close for Lanzarote and Trabado and Toledo for the home side.

Just when you thought that the half would end goalless tragedy struck from a Lanzarote point of view. A cross from winger Fran flew off Rojillos defender Taja and straight into the net giving the hosts a fortunate 1-0 lead.

A minute later and midfielder Toledo won the ball in midfield and within seconds he fed Cristian Morales who doubled his side lead with a super volley which sent his side into the break with a shock 2-0 lead.

The Rojillos returned for the second half with their heads held high determined to fight to the last minute. Despite holding possession and forcing an increased tempo to the game the Rojillos failed to convert a host of chances.

In the 65th minute Toñito was tripped in the box and Lanzarote were gifted a lifeline from the penalty spot. Rosmen made no mistakes in making the score 2-1.

Lanzarote bombarded the Tenerife goal till the last minute but there was no way through as the home side held on to claim all three points. CD Laguna has now moved six points clear of relegation following a four game unbeaten run. Lanzarote drop one position to 12th and are at home (TIAS) next Sunday at 12 noon versus Tenerife side CD Racqui San Isidro.
