CD EL COTILLO   3   LANZAROTE   1,     8th Nov 2015

The Rojillos (The Reds) took over 100 fans to Fuerteventura who were all in a jovial mood but unfortunately this had to go down as the worst performance of the season. Lanzarote are still however the leaders of the division.

In the first minute of the match only a good save by Agoney prevented the home side from taking the lead. Against the run of play the Rojillos went in front on their first attack. Good work from the Colombian Mauri as he beat the left back and fired in a low shot, the keeper saved his effort but the rebound went high into the air and there are not many players who are going to out jump the towering frame of the Lanzarote skipper Rosmen who nodded the ball home into the empty net to give his side a 0-1 lead.

The Fuerteventura side have climbed the league in recent weeks and now sit in 7th spot had a couple of good chances to level before the break. In the 9th minute striker Pedrito powered in a terrific header but the Lanzarote keeper Agoney proved once again that he is up there with any keeper in this league with a brilliant reflex save tipping the ball over the bar for a corner.

A few minutes later and Javi Melián had a wonderful opportunity to give Lanzarote breathing space when he was put through. It wasn’t a great angle but the 21 year old missed the target by a good distance.

Agoneys second good save came on the half hour when he reacted quick and saved with his feet again from Pedrito.

As half time came Lanzarote were rather fortunate to take some cover from that soaring heat with a 0-1 lead.

Second half greeted us with a nice breeze which was extremely welcome for us fans who absolutely no cover from the sun whatsoever. This breeze did give the home side an added advantage but the way their opponents were playing that assisted them much more.

The Majoreros (Fuerteventurians) got their well deserved equaliser in the 66th minute when inevitably Pedrito headed home from a cross from the right wing.

Any time this season when Lanzarote concede the heads go up but the team looked tired and really not up for a fight. It happens.

The home side certainly looked like if one side was to score it was going to be them. Just four minutes after their goal they had a great chance to take the lead but midfielder Héctor put too much weight on his attempted lob from the edge of the box and the ball flew over the bar.

15 minutes later and Héctor made no mistake this time putting his side 2-1 up when he connected with a left wing cross and his header flew into the top right hand corner from eight yards.

The visitors offered very little in terms of response and the home side put icing on their cake deep into added on time when Jonathan Sesma  got reward for his hard day’s work when he completed the scoring to make it 3-1.

The Rojillos will need to bounce back quickly from this as they have now been beaten for the first time this season so next week they will certainly won’t want to surrender their 27 home game run without defeat to Gran Canrian side Unión Viera. This game is on Sunday at 12 noon.
