ATLÉTICO GRANADILLA   1   LANZAROTE   0

Lanzarote´s first away game of the New Year ends in defeat with a goal 13 minutes from time which sees the Tenerife side remain in second place in the league table four points behind league leaders Las Palmas B.

The Tenerife side began the better of the two sides but the Rojillos were strong in defence which limited the home team to just long range efforts.

As the first half progressed Lanzarote established themselves in midfield and were looking the more dangerous side threatening Granadilla on the counter attack. Up until the end of the first period it was difficult to see which side was chasing promotion to Segunda B (league 1).

The second period began in similar fashion as the first half had ended with both sides playing good football and evenly matched.

With 20 minutes remaining the home side began to lay siege in the Lanzarote half determined to search for all three points. The Rojillos manager brought on for his debut British defender Jamie Macphee to bolster up his defence.

Just before the goal the Tenerife side were denied the lead on a couple of occasions by good saves from the Rojillos keeper Agoney and striker Airam Benito blasting over from around the penalty spot.

Deservedly the Tenerife side went in front in the 77th minute following great work by Airam Benito and sub Rubén Rosquete with the latter firing home inside the area.

Lanzarote now with nothing to lose dominated the remainder of the match but in the final third the Tenerife defence stood firm and comfortably saw out their narrow win.

The Rojillos remain in 12th spot and are at home next week against Tenerife B at time to be confirmed later in the week.
