LANZAROTE 1 UD IBARRA 1, 27th November 2016,
The Rojillos were within seconds of victory against the third placed team but a 25 yard wonder strike for the Tenerife side deep into stoppage time ensured Lanzarote their 11th draw out of their 15 games played this season.
The first half of this match was interrupted by petit fouls. One can understand referees not wanting to give out cards in the opening stages but when play constantly stops the officials should act and punish one or two offenders which would then put a stop to this and allow the game to flow.
The only notable strike at goal in the first period was when Toñito on the right wing saw the keeper off his line. The Lanzarote winger shot from around 30 yards from a narrow angle and forced the Tenerife keeper to tip the ball over the bar.
The Rojillos got off to a flyer in the second half. Just two minutes in and British boy Louis Kennedy continued his good form this season by breezing past the right back and fired in a low, inch perfect cross for striker Quintero who thrashed the ball home from six yards and giving Lanzarote a 1-0 lead.
In the 59th minute Ibarra midfielder Iray struck a volley with power and accuracy but fortunately for Lanzarote the ball fell kindly into the arms of the Rojillos keeper Agoney.
Two minutes later and the Lanzarote goalkeeper earned his weeks wages with a triple save. Firstly Agoney saved a strike from Matías, the rebound fell to danger man Manzi but Agoney quickly responded saving with his body and the third chance Agoney dived at the feet of sub Raúl smothering his effort.
Moments later and Manzi from the edge of the box had a free strike at goal but pulled his shot well wide to the relief of the Lanzarote supporters.
This was a completely different game to that of the first half but one thing which was constant was the play acting from the visitors.
In the 77th minute striker Matías went down in the six yard box appealing for a penalty and was down on the ground for at least ten seconds rolling around in pain before realising his side had the ball. As his teammate swung in a cross he miraculously rose to his feet and brought the ball down on his chest but was thwarted by Agoney was once more who pounced on the ball instantly. This at worst is a yellow card offence however the official chose not to card the offender.
Ten minutes from time and the hard working Quintero chased down the right wing beat his defender and just managed to pull the ball back from the by-line to the penalty spot but unfortunately no Lanzarote player was up with play for what would have been a tap in with the keeper committed.
In the 42nd minute Agoney again denied the Tenerife side, this time from a header destined for the top right hand corner. Two minutes later and good work from Ayoze Pérez and Yeremy freed Ayoze with a one on one with the keeper. As Ayoze tried to place his shot into the bottom right hand corner the Ibarra keeper saved with his feet.
The visitors won themselves a free kick late on following a bad challenge from an otherwise very good performance from Marcos Cabrera. Agoney set his wall but Iray hit his strike with such perfection that nothing was going to stop the ball from hitting the roof of the net to salvage his side a point and completely deflate the Lanzarote players and fans.
The Rojillos did not have time to respond so had to accept another draw. Next week Lanzarote are away and will face seventh placed side Tenerife B.
