U.D.LAS PALMAS B 1-1 U.D.LANZAROTE

LAS PALMAS B   1   LANZAROTE   1,   12th October 2016,

This may be Lanzarote´s fourth drawn match on the bounce but they had to fight tooth and nail to take a point off the third placed side. Nobody could doubt the commitment shown by Adolfo Pérez´s men as they spent most the game chasing shadows but stuck to their game plan and were rewarded with an away draw.

The B team of Las Palmas will see this game as two points lost as they dominated possession and created the few but better chances.

The Rojillos knew that they were going to have to be at their best in defence to avoid defeat against a young and talented Gran Canarian side. It would prove to be a long hard slog in intense heat chasing the ball for long periods but the whole side worked hard and got their reward.

In the first half Lanzarote didn’t even have a strike at goal but with a solid central defensive partnership of Fran Gil and Acai both of whom have played for Las Palmas B they restricted the hosts to few opportunities.

In the second half as the heat increased so did the pressure from Las Palmas to find the opening goal. In the 60th minute the tall, strong Las Palmas striker Erick Expósito weaved his way through the Rojillo defence and fired in his strike out of reach of keeper Alejandro and into the top left hand corner to give his side a deserved 1-0 lead.

Manager Adolfo Pérez kept his side defensively solid as there was still half an hour to play but if Lanzarote conceded another then it would have been game over.

In the 74th minute Lanzarote´s patience paid dividends. A deep cross from the left wing by  the impressive Miguel Gómez  was laid back by Toñito into the path of midfielder Borja,  from ten yards he planted his shot just inside the left hand post leaving the keeper with no chance and levelled the score at 1-1.

The home side again came close with a header that came crashing off the bar but Lanzarote held on valiantly to secure a good draw.
